The Church begins reading this week from the prophet Hosea, who lived in the northern kingdom of Israel in the eighth century B.C. Hosea takes his personal tragedy, an unfaithful wife, and notices how it helps him understand the relationship of God to the chosen people. I will espouse you to me forever: I will espouse you in right and in justice, in love and in mercy; I will espouse you in fidelity, and you shall know the LORD. That is a vivid illustration of the reality that our relationship with God does not occur on lofty plains of mystical visions. No, God is found in the everyday experiences that mark our life. Even one of the greatest mystics, St. Teresa of Avila, told her sisters, “God walks among the pots and pans.” In prayer today see where you can find the presence of God in the providence of your everyday life.
