The Book of Genesis features the patriarchs: Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. In addition, almost a third of the book is devoted to the next to the youngest son of Jacob, Joseph. Of course the foster father of Jesus was also named Joseph and St. Matthew makes a connection since both of them were dreamers. That illustrates how we can go into the tradition to help make sense of current events. For example, the founder of my religious congregation, Fr. Judge, used to quote the Genesis line: all the world came to Joseph. Whatever troubles he was confronting he would place in the hands of his heavenly patron. We can turn over the current uproar in our city and in our hearts to Joseph as well.
