St. Paul told the church in Corinth we are not discouraged because in Christ we are being transformed from glory to glory. When I look at the state of the country, the church, the city, my own soul I am discouraged. Instead of moving from glory to glory it seems things are going from bad to worse. The Apostle tells us later in the same epistle all of the troubles and difficulties he was having — persecution, imprisonment, beatings, shipwreck. Such things did not discourage him because he kept his eye on the transformation wrought by Christ and Him crucified. God brings life out of death. We have hope in our movement from glory to glory by recognizing the big picture of God’s action in history.
