“What, then, will this child be?” That question can be asked not only of John the Baptist but of every child. When you see a child you see potential, some new thing that God is doing. It is incumbent on society to provide every child the opportunity to live up to that potential. That is why the murder of children seems so horrible. The shooting in Uvaldi, Texas has rightly been prominently featured in the news. So far almost unnoticed in 2022 there have been 27 shooting in schools with 83 people shot. The right to life has to include making sure that gun violence does not cut down those who are the future of our country and our church. Jesus said childlren populate the kingdom of heaven.
