The Church celebrates the two figures most significant in the foundation of Christianity on the same day. Saints Peter and Paul were men with a common faith but with different temperaments and experiences that caused them to clash at times. In the tradition, Peter has come to stand for continuity — making sure that the message of Jesus is faithfully handed on to the next generation. Paul was about creativity — finding a way to make the gospel understandable to those who had not yet grasped it. The wisdom of the feast is that the Church needs the gifts of both apostles in order for the faith to thrive. We need to be grounded in the roots of Peter and soar on the wings of Paul
