You’ve got to ask the right question. When the angel announces to Zechariah that he is to become the father of John the Baptist he asks:“How can I be sure of this?” When the angel announces to Mary that she is to become the mother of Jesus she asks: “How can this be?” Zechariah asked the wrong question. He wanted more proof (as if an angelic visit was not proof enough!) before he came to believe. Mary asked the right question. She wanted to know how this was going to happen — process, not proof. We are filled with questions about the presence and action of God in the midst of the pandemic. Ask those questions full of trust that nothing is impossible with God.
