“Here comes that master dreamer! Come on, let us kill him and … we shall then see what comes of his dreams.” This passage from the book of Genesis about Joseph could have been written about Dr. King. The forces opposing equality imagined that if they killed the dreamer, the dream of a society where people “will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character” would also die. Fifty some odd years later we find that not only has the dream not died, it is pressing society more forcefully than ever to act with greater justice since black lives do matter. As the Whitney Houston song put it, “though hope is frail it’s hard to kill.”
