As Paul continued his missionary journey he ended in the Greek city of Corinth where he met a Jew named Aquila, a native of Pontus, who had recently come from Italy with his wife Priscilla. We know this married couple both from Acts and the Pauline letters as the leaders of the Church in Corinth. We previously heard about Lydia who served as the leader of the Church in Philippi. We learn from this that for the early Church leadership was not limited to celibate males! The Church structures we have today developed for historical reasons in Western Europe. We are at a new moment in history. We as a Church must recover the ability to recognize Church leadership in whomever God bestows the gift.
