There are twenty-seven books in the New Testament and the Epistle of St. Jude is only used once in the Catholic Lectionary (the book of daily readings.) The book purports to be from one of the twelve apostles but some scholars doubt that is true since the Greek used in writing the epistle seems too sophisticated for a Galilean fisherman. It was common in the ancient world to use the authority of another to enforce your message. Remember the words spoken beforehand by the Apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ. Build yourselves up in your most holy faith. The message of the epistle reflects a time when divisions and divergent teachings were creeping into the nascent Christian community. The author suggests going back to the sources, to the original preaching as the litmus test for the authenticity of any doctrinal development. Good advice for our time as well.
