St. Paul was a man on a mission — literally. He wanted to bring the gospel everywhere. However, according to ACTS he wasn’t able to go into “the province of Asia” and Bithynia. Knowing Paul, he was probably frustrated by this. However, in retrospect, St. Luke, that author of ACTS, sees the hand of God. They were “prevented by the Holy Spirit” and “the Spirit of Jesus did not allow them.” Instead of going East, they were led West, into Greece, into Europe. “Come over to Macedonia and help us.” In our lives that happens all too often. We get upset when our plans or ideas don’t pan out. It is only in hindsight that we recognize that God was leading us on the correct path.
