The results of the election after the recent political campaign seemed to affirm its divisive, hateful, ugly rhetoric. Many people, myself included, find this very discouraging. We had hoped that our country was moving toward a more equitable, just and peaceful society. The election said, not so fast. The advice of Jesus is particularly timely in these days. He spoke of “the necessity for them to pray always without becoming weary.” When we pray we get a bigger perspective. As discouraging as today might be God makes a way out of no way. As Dr. King reminded us, the arc of history is long but it bends toward justice. Or as the elders sang, “I don’t believe He brought me this far to leave me.”
