The Book of Wisdom speaks of those who look for God in nature. They seek God and wish to find him; for they search busily among his works. Seeing God’s handiwork in creation is one avenue to learn about God and the ways of God. Jesus in the Gospel used the Scriptures as a way to learn of God. He knew the Bible stories of Noah and the Flood, of Sodom and Gomorrah and Lot’s wife, of Jonah and the whale and applied those lessons to what God was doing in his ministry. Creation and scripture are two privileged places to learn of God. There is a third way: in the people that we meet. Victor Hugo put it “To love another person is to see the face of God.” The better we know people as made in God’s image and likeness, as being children of God, the more we are able to experience the presence of God in the world.
