As you come down the Mount of Olives you come to a church called “Dominus Flevit,” the Lord wept. You can see the city of Jerusalem spread out before you and can imagine this as the spot St. Luke remembers in the Gospel. As Jesus drew near Jerusalem, he saw the city and wept over it. A vivid reminder that sometimes all you can do is weep. We feel powerless when we see loved ones making bad choices — but after we have done all we can we have to hand them over to God and just feel sad. However, the tears of Jesus were not the end of the story. He continued to give reasons for hope despite the coming disaster. So must we.
