I took the small scroll from the angel’s hand and swallowed it. In my mouth it was like sweet honey, but when I had eaten it, my stomach turned sour. The world of God is sweet — it speaks of love, compassion, forgiveness, generosity, hope. However, living out that word is costly. It requires that we do the work of conversion, eliminating those selfish and grasping parts of our personality. It requires recognizing everyone, even the obnoxious, is a child of God. It requires confronting those systems which are harmful to other people or God’s beautiful creation. Happily the sweeteness of the word makes the “sour” parts tolerable.
