St. Augustine in his Confessions famously mused about time. He said that he has an instinct of what time is but when he tries to describe it he gets lost. Several centuries later Albert Einstein provided a scientific definition of time and concluded that time is relative, that it is a component of the “space-time continuum.” Today the Church urges us to remember the faithful departed. In doing so, we find out how tricky time can be. Even if a beloved family member or friend is long gone they are still part of your life. They live in the eternal “now” of God where we also live. Today is a day of hope that the past, present and future are all in God’s hands.
