The readings assigned for today are tragedy and triumph. Jesus speaks of the suffering that all too often is our lot in life. “They will seize and persecute you, they will hand you over… You will be hated by all.” John the Seer has a vision of the final triumph of God. On the sea of glass were standing those who had won the victory. What is noteworthy is this vision in the book of Revelation came during the time of persecution and hatred. St. John wanted his readers to hang in there because God will not be mocked. That message is timely today when we are going through some rough times. We are not to get discouraged no matter what we are enduring because we are given the blessed assurance that in God all will be well. By your perseverance you will secure your lives.
