“Consider the fig tree and all the other trees. When their buds burst open, you see for yourselves and know that summer is now near.” Jesus was a keen observer. He looked around at nature, at farmers, at bakers, at shepherds and saw there a sign of the presence of God. We must work to develop the same kind of sight that leads to insight. For example, as Pope Francis reminds us, the current environmental crisis is not simply economic or scientific. It is spiritual. In the book of Genesis we read that God gave humanity stewardship over creation. Poisoning our air and water, wasting our precious resources, exterminating whole species is not good stewardship. See the plan of God in the works of creation!
