“God won’t give you any more than you can handle.” You hear this phrase often so it is easy to assume that it is in the Bible. It is not. The sad truth is that many people get overwhelmed by what life dishes out to them — loss, grief, abuse, depression. What the Bible does teach is that there is a way through distressing situations. St. Paul puts it this way: “I have the strength for everything through him who empowers me.” The Apostle teaches that we need a partner, the right partner, to get through the rough times. That partner is Jesus. He halves our loads and doubles our joys. It is incumbent upon us to make Jesus a greater part of our lives.
