When St. Paul wrote to the church at Rome, a community he did not know, he stressed the theme of unity. This was not a new idea for him but one that he stressed in all of the communities that he founded. He didn’t KNOW that unity was needed among the Roman Christians but he presumed it, since it had been an issue in every place he was aware of. The way to promote unity for the Apostle was that each person contribute their uniqueness to the one body of Christ. “We have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us exercise them.” As Church we must use everyone’s giftedness in order to bring the good news into the world.
