At a recent meeting of priests of the Archdiocese I was asked how are people coping with the destruction of St. James Church. My answer was: many still miss it deeply and they don’t understand why it was taken away from them. The early Jewish Christians no doubt had very strong feelings when the Temple, the place they knew as the “house of God” was destroyed. Maybe that is what led St. Paul to declare: “You are God’s building.” Yes, we love those sacred spaces which lift our minds and hearts to God. We love to experience the beauty which raises us up from the sordid in life. But the place we need to find God is in the faces of our brothers and sisters.
