My favorite book of all time is Franny and Zooey by J.D. Salinger. There is a scene where Franny, about age 10, tells her brother that she doesn’t like Jesus anymore. His saying, “You are worth more than many sparrows,” doesn’t seem true to her. What about her Easter chick or her pet cat. They a worth a great deal to her. Her brother explains that she really does not understand what Jesus was about. For him, every single individual, even the worst of people, is a child of God, made in God’s image and likeness and, hence, of infinite, eternal worth. The challenge this presents for me is to able to recognize the face of Christ in all the people whom I encounter in life.
