“I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it were already blazing!” Jesus was about fire. We seem content with being tepid. Do you remember the old Johnny Cash song: I fell into a burning ring a fire? The experience of passionate love seems to combust our insides. Jesus had a passionate love for his Heavenly Father that spilled over into loving the people of God. And, as we know, in the throes of passionate love we do anything for the beloved. “I would climb the highest mountain for you…” Of course, Jesus wants us to have the same kind of passion in our relationship with God. We are called to become saints but we seem content in remaining decent.
