St. Paul reminds us that will power is not enough. For I do not do the good I want, but I do the evil I do not want. That certainly resonates with my experience. Most mornings when I wake up I think “today would be a good day to lose a few pounds.” When the day ends what I intended to do at the beginning of the day didn’t happen. In twelve step spirituality the first step reminds us that on our own we are powerless to change the unmanageable parts of our lives. The second step assures us that there is a Greater Power that can restore us to sanity. The Apostle tells us who: Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
