“Much will be required of the person entrusted with much, and still more will be demanded of the person entrusted with more.” This saying of Jesus caused a friend of mine a great deal of anxiety. He felt like God had given him so much — intelligence, an excellent education, good health — and he was not using all of those gifts to their fullest. How was God going to judge him? I observed he was also given some not so wonderful things — a dysfunctional family, an addictive personality, limited resources. I suspect that God would be able to use those seemingly negative things for some good end as much or more than those things he perceived as gifts. The truth is that God can use everything for some salvific purpose. Christians hold the cross infront of us as a reminder that we have been entrusted with suffering just as Jesus was but that it is joy that gets the last word.
