Who is my neighbor? That question addressed to Jesus is just as relevant today as it was two thousand years ago. The human tendency is to divide the world up: men are not women, blacks are not white, Spanish-speaking are not English-speaking. Jesus does not notice differences but commonalities. We are all children of God. We are all made in God’s image and likeness. We all have an eternal destiny. Since there isn’t anyone out there who doesn’t bear a family resemblance to Jesus our arena of responsibility expands tremendously. We would not hesitate to lend a hand to our brother or sister if they were in trouble. Jesus wants us to understand that everyone is brother and sister and mother to us.
