We read in the ninth chapter of the book of Job, “Should God seize me forcibly, who can say him nay? Who can say to him, ‘What are you doing?'” The next thirty chapter of the book are Job asking that exact question! That is the story of faith, isn’t it? We know that God is God and we’re not. On the other hand, we do question the plan of God when we see suffering in the world. The example of Job teaches the importance of honesty in prayer. We need to pour out our hearts to God even when filled with anguish. We do so because ultimately faith is not so much a matter of understanding as it is a matter of love.
