St. Paul claims Abraham as the father of the Christian faith as well as the Jewish: It is those who have faith
who are children of Abraham. Later Islam will also look on Abraham as their father in the faith. The idea of the Abrahamic religions has recently been coopted even to describe a political accord. The thing to notice about Abraham’s faith is that is about change, or to put it in religious language, conversion. God called Abram to change from being content in Ur of the Chaldees to the risk of immigrating to the land of the Canaanites. As children of Abraham we are also called to change, to conversion. We are not stuck but can grow in forgiveness, generosity, compassion and love.
