Now the natural man does not accept what pertains to the Spirit of God, for to him it is foolishness, and he cannot understand it, because it is judged spiritually. The wisdom of the world is that you have to take care of yourself. The foolishness of the Spirit of God is that we must take care of one another. We see the Spirit of God at work in marriages and families. A marriage does not work if one is only concerned with your needs. A family becomes dysfunctional when the members don’t act with an awareness of how their behavior impacts others. When we write this out large because, after all, we are the family of God, we see how society is not structured in a gospel manner. We have the myth of a self-made man (and it usually is a man.) It seems foolishness in American society to share yourself with those who are in some need. But that is what the Spirit of God expects of us. That is what being a Christian means.
