Human nature hasn’t changed much over the centuries. One thing is true, no matter what you do you will be criticized. Jesus observed how he was criticized for one thing and John the Baptist for the opposite: ‘We played the flute for you, but you did not dance. We sang a dirge, but you did not weep.’ If they criticized Jesus you can be pretty sure they will criticize you as well, whatever you do. The way to respond to criticism is not by being defensive but with love. St. Paul tells us that “love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.Love never fails.” When we keep doing the loving thing we can put with with the cutting remarks.
