You hear alot about the Bible from certain politicians but you have to wonder at times if they have really gotten the message. For example, both the Old and New Testament warn against the desire for more. In the Book of Proverbs we read: Provide me only with the food I need. Jesus instructed his disciples as he was sending them forth: “Take nothing for the journey.” The Biblical word cautions us about the all too human tendency to want, to acquire, to grasp after, to accumulate. This probably goes back to our cave dwelling days when surviving depended on having enough food and fire. In the abundance of modernity we still want more stuff even though we have enough to be comfortable with what we have. Of course, Jesus takes this a step further and says when you have enough make sure that you are giving your extra to those who are in need.
