We read in the Book of Revelation: “War broke out in heaven.” What a scary concept. How can this be? Heaven is supposed to be about joy and peace and happiness, not war. Maybe the lesson from our point of view: knowing God is not enough. The angels knew God. Lucifer was the light-bearer and certainly knew God. Nonetheless, war broke out in heaven. That should warn us to move beyond knowing into loving. Knowledge without love does not save. So while it is good to study the catechism and read the Bible and do all we can to learn about God, we must accompany that knowledge with loving those people that God weaves into our lives and seeing in them the face of God.
