Worship

Sunday Morning Mass in the Church at 9:30AM (English) and 1:00PM (Spanish).

Our Sunday Masses are joyful expressions of our love for God, incorporating everything from Gregorian Chant to Gospel music.  When you come to worship at Saint James, don’t be surprised if someone notices that you are a visitor!  Along with excellent liturgy, we also value hospitality.

SPRED Mass at St. James

From September through May, the SPRED (Special Religious Development) community comes together to celebrate Mass at St. James on the first Sunday of the month (in English) and the third Sunday of the month (in Spanish).

During these special liturgies, you will notice a few simple adaptations that make the Mass more accessible and prayerful for our SPRED friends. These include gentle, repetitive music, catechists who gesture to the readings to provide a visual interpretation of God’s Word, and a shared proclamation of the responsorial psalm through song and gesture.

Our SPRED friends also take an active role in the celebration—helping with the preparation of the altar and the presentation of the gifts.

All are welcome to join us for these beautiful celebrations of faith and to share fellowship with the community afterwards.

Children’s Liturgy of the Word at 9:30AM Sunday Mass

“Kids’ Word” is a way for children to more deeply understand the scriptures.  Children are welcome to join in the interactive reflection in a classroom while the scriptures and sermon are presented in the hall.

Weekday Mass in the Fr. Tolton Chapel of the Rectory Mon-Fri 7:30AM

This is an excellent way to start your day off with prayer and fellowship over coffee after the brief Mass.

Eucharistic Adoration on First Fridays of the month in the Fr. Tolton Chapel 8:30AM - 9:30AM and 6PM - 7pm and on Saturdays from 3:30PM-5PM at 3347 S. Michigan Ave. (mid-August through mid-May).

Spend time in quiet reflection with our Lord, present in the Eucharist.

Confession Times at St. James Wabash

Confessions are available at the following times:

  • Every Sunday, before and after the 9:30 AM Mass

  • First Friday of the month, from 6:00–7:00 PM at the Rectory

  • Every Saturday, from 3:30–5:00 PM at 3347 S. Michigan Ave. (mid-August through mid-May)

  • By special appointment with Fr. John Edmunds, S.T. at (312) 842-1919 x201 or jedmunds@stjameswabash.org

Come Experience Taizé Prayer at St. James

You are warmly invited to join us for our Taizé Prayer Services, held in the church quarterly at 7:00 PM on the second Wednesday of March, June, September, and December.

Taizé Prayer is a beautiful, meditative style of worship that began in a small monastery in Taizé, France—an ecumenical community founded during World War II with a mission of peace, reconciliation, and unity.

At St. James, our Taizé prayer gatherings carry that same spirit through gentle sung mantras, moments of silence, scripture, candlelight, and time to lift up your own prayer intentions.

Come, rest in God’s presence, and be renewed in peace.

If you wish to have a special intention remembered at Mass, the recommended donation is $10.  Please contact Cathy Moore. (312) 842-1919 X211, cmoore@stjameswabash.org

You may write special intentions in the book of intentions at the entry to the hall.  These are not read at Mass but are remembered silently.  In the month of November, you may write the names of the deceased who you wish to remember in the book of the dead in the entry to the hall.
