The Epistle to the Hebrews talks about what we usually refer to as Jesus’ Agony in the Garden. “In the days when he was in the Flesh, he offered prayers and supplications with loud cries and tears to the one who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverence.” His prayer was heard, we are told. However, he was not saved from death. What a powerful reminder about our own prayer. We tend to imagine that God hears our prayer when we get what we want like a cosmic game of go fish. When God hears our prayer we are given what is for the best even if it is not what we want. “Thy will be done.”
