There is a most poignant conversation between Jesus and the father of the epileptic boy in Mark’s Gospel. When the father asked for a cure Jesus said to him, “All things are possible to him who believes.” Immediately the father of the child cried out and said with tears, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!” Isn’t that our story as well? We are people of faith, we know that what we seek is found only in God. Yet we still are filled with doubts and worries and anxiety. Faith is not something we achieve but something that we have because of God’s gift. Our prayer today echoes that of the father: Help my unbelief in your power to make all things new, even me.
