Corinth was a port city. Like many port cities it collected a lot of the riff-raff of society. St. Paul spent more time in Corinth than anywhere else during his life as a missionary. If Christianity could take root here, it could flourish everywhere. In addition, Paul had excellent collaborators in the married couple Aquila and Priscilla. They shared with the Apostle the tent-makers’ trade which gave them ready access to a broad swath of the population. (In addition to the shipping personnel passing through who needed tents to stay in, Corinth hosted the athletes and spectators of the Isthmian Games which were held in the years between the Olympic Games.) St. Paul proves that even in the toughest circumstance the gospel brings good news.
