Sts. Jude and Simon are the tenth and eleventh on the list of apostles. We know very little about them. In fact, in some of the list of apostles Jude is called Thaddeus. Hence, many refer to the saint as Jude Thaddeus. (Apparently he became the patron of hopeless causes because he was so far down the list that by the time people invoked his intercession in prayer he was the saint of last resort.) Similarly, little is know of Simon. He is called both the “Zealot” or the “Cananaean.” No one is exactly sure what that refers to except maybe to distinguish him from Simon Peter. All of which says Jesus did not chose famous people to be apostles but ordinary folk — like us.
