The way St. Luke tells the story of Jesus a dramatic turn happens when Our Lord decided to leave the successful ministry in Galilee (his native area) and go to the capital city, Jerusalem. “When the days for Jesus to be taken up were fulfilled, he resolutely determined to journey to Jerusalem.” I like the image in the original Greek: “he set his face toward Jerusalem.” Jesus wanted to do the will of his Heavenly Father and that required going to Jerusalem. But like all human beings, what the will of God would ask of him specifically needed to unfold in the concrete circumstances of life. In our lives we do the will of God in daily fidelity to the commandments and charity toward others.
