“Am I my brother’s keeper?” Of course, the answer to Cain’s question is “yes.” He was responsible for his brother, Abel, and he violated that trust. That same question should haunt us as well. Am I brother to the earthquake victims in Turkey, the refugees from Venezuela, the crime victims in Chicago? Yes. All of humanity has a claim on me since I see in them the face of Jesus. “Whatsoever you do to the least, you do unto me.” In our age of modern communication the problems around us can seem overwhelming and we are powerless to deal with them. That is where the old motto “think globally, act locally” comes in. Be aware of what is going on in the world and do what you can to make your little corner of it a little more full of kindness.
