The Feast of the Guardian Angels has its roots in the Scripture. The Bible often refers to angels as the agents of God in the world. Guardian angels in particular are a concept that grew out of the comment of Jesus that the “little ones” have “angels in heaven.” While not defined as doctrine in the Church devotion to the angels has been a popular piety among the Catholic faithful for at least the past three centuries. The lesson for our own spiritual life: God’s personal and particular care for each individual. God is not aloof, abiding above it all in heaven. Rather, God extends the divine presence into the lives of each person and we can rely on grace and mercy in all things.
