During the Fifty days of Easter the first reading will be taken from the Acts of the Apostles. In doing so the Church tells something about the Resurrection of Jesus. The greatest testimony to the Risen Lord was not the empty tomb, was not the record of the appearances, was even the fact that Peter and the other early disciples were “witnesses that God raised this Jesus.” The real proof of the resurrection was what happened to Peter and those disciples. Before Easter they were lost, confused, wavering — a bunch of losers. After Easter they become bold, confident, self-assured. The Risen Jesus changed their understanding not only of who Jesus was but of who they were before God. That should be our Easter message as well. Can I let my faith in the Risen Lord restore my awareness of how blessed I am and that God will be with me in all things and through all things.
