Jesus asked the man who had been sick for 38 yearsm”Do you want to be well?” Instead of answering the man gave his excuse on why he wasn’t well. That is a story all too familiar. Jesus asks us, Do you want to be well? Do you want to be happy? Do you want to be holy? Do you want your life to be fulfilled? Instead of confronting that challenge of those questions head on we make excuses. I’ve been wounded by my family. I have a checkered past. I am just an ordinary person. I have tried and failed. Jesus did not let the excuse of the sick man stop him from bringing healing and wholeness into his life. The same can be true of us. Once we learn to trust that Jesus can, in fact, give us the gifts that we yearn for then we find ourselves blessed beyond belief. What we can’t for ourselves accomplish comes from the merciful hand of Christ.
