As they prayed, the place where they were gathered shook, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and continued to speak the word of God with boldness. The first generation of believers were conscious that the lived under threat — that what the authorities had done to Jesus could easily be turned on them. Thus the need for “boldness,” for confidence that they had a message worth sharing. In our “whatever” age there is a similar need for boldness. When we see how people are being chewed up and spit out by society we must insist that there is a better way, the way of compassion, forgiveness and love, the way of Jesus.
