If you family is anything like mine you have brothers and sisters, children and grandchildren who no longer practice the faith. Despite going to Catholic school and being well catechized, they simply stopped going to Mass. When you ask them about it they answer, “Uncle Johnny, I just don’t get anything out of it.” Mr and Mrs Cleopas (who else would the companion be?) were dejected on Easter morning because they didn’t get what they expected out of Jesus. What they were looking for us a renewed nation, freedom from the Romans, their country saved. What they got was a Bible lesson, burning hearts and the breaking of the bread. They weren’t looking for it but the encounter with Jesus was what they really needed.
