At last year’s physical my doctor asked if I had any health goals for the year. “I’d like to lose a few pounds.” He inquired how I planned to go about doing so and when I said I did not have a plan he responded, “Well, good luck with that.” This came to mind in hearing the story of the man at the pool of Bethesda. Jesus asked him very directly, “Do you want to be well?” The man then listed his excuses on why he was not well. I have excuses on why I am not a saint, on why I am not holy. But Jesus cuts through that. I must have plan to be a saint, to be holy which relies on Jesus.
