They stopped objecting and glorified God, saying, “God has then granted life-giving repentance to the Gentiles too.” One of the constant temptations in human life is to imagine that my group, my time, my culture is somehow just a little better than the other. To counteract that tendency in the US there has been a consistent effort to promote diversity. When we are exposed to other peoples and cultures we see that theirs has strengths and mine has weaknesses. Letting each group contribute to the sense of the whole makes everyone better. This temptation can be particularly dangerous when it somes to religion. Since we are talking about God it is easy to imagine that my approach to God must be the best one. What the first generation of Christians discovered was that God was bigger than their ideas about God. The lesson is as necessary today as it was back then.
