In order to bring the people in Pisidia to the faith, St. Paul told the story of salvation. In order to understand Jesus, you need to know how God has been at work from the very beginning. We live in an age of plans, projections, goals. One motto you hear nowadays: that was then, this is now. Perhaps a better motto for our age would be the words of William Faulkner: The past is not dead. It is really not even past. We bring our history with us. It shapes and forms us in ways we aren’t necessarily aware of. A helpful spiritual practice is to situate ourselves in our personal salvation history — to look at the ways God has been with us throughout life.
