The Acts of the Apostles is a story of the message of Jesus gradually rippling out. From the initial community in Jerusalem it spread into Samaria. Next we are told it went to African in the person of the Ethiopian Eunuch. (The Coptic Church looks on him as their founder.) Note that Acts reports that the Apostles, Jesus’ core team, stayed in Jerusalem. The message was being spread abroad by those you wouldn’t have expected. For example, the one who preached to the African was Philip, the deacon. According to Acts the deacons were supposed to “wait on tables.” Instead, they are portrayed as boldly preaching the word. You cannot imprison the word of the Lord. We can share God’s love even during a pandemic!
