The Risen Jesus said to Mary Magdalene, “Stop holding on to me.” Stop clinging to the way things used to be, the old way of operating. No longer will we walk the dusty roads of Galilee together. We will share life in a deeper and more profound way than in the past. That word to Mary Magdalene is one we need to take to heart. We must remain open to the new thing God is doing. For example, parents learn this — as their children grow and mature the ways of relating to them must change. In Church we should be wary whenever we hear “we’ve always done it that way.” Holding onto the familiar can inhibit our ability to go where God is taking us.
