We all have images of God that are meaningful to us. Jesus’ favorite image of God was the Heavenly Father. Many people like to think of the Good Shepherd. In the Psalms God is variously described as a warrior, as a husband, as creator. We are all aware of the image of God as Judge. In our creeds we confess that the Son has been sent as “judge of the living and the dead.” In our time we are recovering another image of God from the Old Testament — that of a mother. “Can a mother forget her infant, be without tenderness for the child of her womb?” When you pray today become aware of the image of God that you relate to.
