I want a burning heart like Mr. and Mrs. Cleopas. “Were not our hearts burning within us while he spoke to us on the way and opened the Scriptures to us?”  By coincidence (providence?) the saint of the day, St. Isidore of Seville, had a reflection on how to read in a spiritual way. He suggested that understand that the Scripture is not meant for our information but our formation. We don’t read the Bible to learn about what happened in the long ago and far away. We read the Bible as a word addressed particularly to me, that the words of Jesus are designed to have an impact in how I think and act. A burning heart comes when God’s word becomes my word.
